Coach Tevia is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa and has lived in Sweden, Canada, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. He played NCAA ice hockey and has over 13 years of Youth Coaching experience.

First Florida Born Hockey Player to get an NHL contract.

Career Highlights include:

• Played 4 years at University of Notre Dame.

• Signed with the Carolina Hurricanes Following his Senior year.

Born, Edmonton Alberta Canada 
Playing Experience: Played 12 seasons professional hockey Germany Played NCAA Division 1 at United States International University (USIU) San Diego. 
Coaching Experience: More than two decades experience as an athlete and coach in professional sport and team management. Coached professional hockey in Germany.

Numerous state championships and bronze medal at National Tier II Championships.

“Sean is currently an EMT with doctors ambulance that is contracted with OCFA, California, He is pursuing a Firefighting career, with studies at Palomar College, and a graduate of the Nationally accredited San Pasqual Fire Academy.

Born and raised in Latvia
Over 20 years playing in Eastern Europe and U.S.
Over 10 years youth coaching experience at AA-B levels.
“My philosophy is to coach kids to love the sport, to become team players (play for the name on the front of their jerseys, not the one on the back), to respect the rules, refs, coaches, teammates and their opponents. I emphasize individual and team skill development and team effort.”

Head Coach Dave Scowby

Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan Canada, Dave offers 19 years of coaching experience. A graduate of Princeton University (NCAA Division I), he played and lettered all 4 years was also team captain his senior year. Dave received a BSE in Civil Engineering and Operations Research as well as graduated from the School of Architecture.

Head Coach Phil Bateman

PB2012/13 Head Coach - 16AA2

Coach Phil has over 22 years of coaching, instructional and teaching experience. He is a National level certified coach in the following three sports: Ice Hockey, Tennis and Alpine Skiing, as well as a certified personal trainer. Phil holds his USA hockey Masters Level 4, High Performance Stream II through Canada Hockey as well as his Coaching Theory III through the NCCP (National Coaches Certification Program) - Canada.

Head Coach Jay Hebert

Jay Hebert  was born in Troy, New York  and played prep school hockey at Loomis-Chaffee.  In 1994 he received full athletic scholarship to University of Massachusetts.

Coach Sara Elliott

Hailing from Madoc, Ontario Canada, Sara has been coaching both boys and girls travel hockey for over 20 years.  Starting out as a Professional Figure Skater, she began playing hockey while on the set of Mighty Ducks II, where she was hired to train the Principle Actors to skate by Hockey Director, Jack White.

Head Coach Scott Hilton

I coached for 8 seasons with the  L.A. Jr. Kings Hockey Club where we won a CAHA Championship and 2 SCAHA Championships. I have coached with the SD Jr. Gulls for 2 seasons and have won a SCAHA and CAHA championship with the Jr.Gulls. I have always looked on coaching with a developmental mindset and it is my goal to develop each person as a teammate, a hockey player and hopefully, a better young man/woman.

Head Coach Juan Trevino

juan2012/13 Head Coach - Squirt A

Coach Juan Trevino began playing hockey at the age of 7 in the hockey hot-bed that is Metro-Detroit.  Juan’s resume includes playing for the likes of the Michigan Nationals, Belle Tire, Birmingham Unified High School.  At the age of 18, Juan made the Eastern Michigan University ACHA division I team and in the year 2000 he was named defensive player of the year and an ACHA all-star.

Head Coach Jason Ellis

je2011/2012 Bantam A/B

Coach Jason is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah where he began playing hockey on out-door rinks as a child.  He has lived in Southern California since moving here in 1988.  He has made Iceoplex his home rink since it’s opening back in 1993.

Head Coach Chris Trujillo

2011/12 Midget A

Chris Trujillo was born in San Jose, Calif and started playing ice hockey when he was 10 years old. Chris played Tier 1 hockey from first year bantam through all his midget years. After finishing midget Chris began to play roller hockey and competed with team Mission USA in the World Tournament in Toronto, Canada.

    April 21, 2012 This Merge and Collaboration will evolve the already established development and growth of the players/teams in San Diego and California. The San Diego Jr. Gulls Hockey Club is the largest and most successful program in San Diego and one of the top programs in California, with some of the most respected professional coaches in the Pacific District. The Jr. Gulls have been in existence for over 40 years and emphasize player development and character growth on and off the ice, continuously move players on to Juniors and NCAA. This past year, Jr. Gulls Alumni played Junior A and Major Juniors in the USHL, NAHL, and the WHL. We had multiple players commit to play NCAA Division I Hockey for Harvard University. Alumni represented their country on the USA 17u Team. Finally, we had a player sign a pro-contract with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres.

The San Diego Jr Gulls would like to congratulate Evan Schmidbauer for being drafted in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) 2010 draft.

1st round, 25th over all by the Wenatchee Wild.  Evan was also the first California player to be drafted.
